CLASSIC: "No David!" Picture Book Directs School Behavior
As a picture book author/illustrator making school visits, I absolutely ADORE when a picture book's 'style' drives instruction. Take a look at these 'goodies' seen as I visit in schools across the country.
You know a good anchor chart for setting classroom expectations when you see one, right? Here are four different versions to compare and contrast. Each uses the gist of the "No David" book series as a foundation, yet each conveys and involves the young students in a unique fashion.
This one is a "Mr. Greg" special.
Did you know that I've been to his school TWO years in a row?
I bet you're already following him at "Kindergarten Smorgasboard."
This was an amazing year for me, because I also got to spend the day at Crystal's school in Texas! Actually I got to spend an entire weekend with her!
IN HER HOME!
You *NEED* to follow Kreative in Kinder.
David Shannon's heart felt & child like illustrations are a huge hit with the beginning art crowd. Take a look at these 'too cute' kindergarten renditions.
They are each and every one a classic!
Seen as a collection makes them that much more enjoyable!
Look at this larger than life-sized hand painted mural of the David Shannon classic David. I LUV me a good school or library mural! {Here's an earlier RoundUP of school murals, worthy of your consideration!}
I'm transporting this image of organizing classroom picture books, into this article. How awesome to have an entire bin of David Shannon books all in one place! David would be proud! Do you just LUV that it looks like David wrote the label himself?
I have two of my picture books {text of each book are lyrics to my original song} that are *PERFECT* to launch the new school year. One is full of the message of self-esteem and is a great group builder.
The other is very patriotic and is intended to be used to honor September 11th. It will also be used for Constitution Day as the new school year gets underway. I have each of the songs in their own zipped file for purchase and immediate download at Teachers Pay Teachers. Here's the link to "You're Wonderful" and this is the digital version of "Red, White and Blue." If you're looking for YouTube versions look at the top of my blog, under that/YouTube tab!
If you're reading this in 'real-time' this summer..... you may want to spend some time cruising through some of my Back-to-School RoundUPs. This recent one has over 200 BTS bulletin boards and decorated classroom doors.
Speaking of outlining the expectations and 'rules' for school,
here's a RoundUP of a couple dozen classroom rule charts.
Maybe I should add the 'No David' examples into this earlier article?
Here's a favorite with Anchor Charts.
Dozens and Dozens and Dozens of Anchor Charts
PLUS their storage/organization, as seen on site!
Please and Thank you for every pin!
