Fine Motor Leads to Fine Arts (Part 8)

Fine Motor + Fine Arts

WELCOME BACK to my continuing series on Fine Motor + Fine Arts!!!

I look forward to creating these posts for you.... much of today's report will feature my own twin grand-children and some of the fun we've had together recently. Look at all of this delight we had last night!

bright colors design, foam sheets, shapes

Last night was 'pack up our world' night and prepare for our big-road ADVENTURE!!!

Our three weeks of Florida-togetherness has wound down and its time to return the TwinkeeZ to their Buckeye roots. Needless to say I had a few things on my mind to prepare for the journey..... and some packing to attend to.

In an effort to keep my budding artists 'busy' we went into my studio space to find something grand for them to explore independently.

We emerged with two packages of untouched craft foam in shrink-wrap..... each pack had 6 pieces of foam in six colors -- precut rectangles a little larger than playing cards. Absolutely THE perfect size for fingers not yet four years old.

The collage above are photos of the creations they made from stacking and sorting their colors.

Fine Motor and foam cards, preschool, bright colors, children hands

They had OODLES of fun 'playing colors': trading them, dealing them and counting them..... all the while their little fingers were busy 'managing' this new and intriguing material. Having so many pieces at their disposal was a great portion of the fun. [Interestingly the die lots of colors were just slightly different between the two sets -- and that added to their pleasure.]

Once I had the suitcases a smidge underway I could enter the fun.
I suggested we build a "Color-City" and showed how the pieces could sit next to each other.

That led to a whole new array of fun.

It's been fun to watch fine-motor fun under my own nose!

Of course it wasn't long before they started their own ideas.

Favorites included variations on Twister and then soon it was American Bandstand.

Which then led me into my photo files.

Seemed only fair to dig out some oldies of WonderBoy.
These next couple of collages are from my visit a year ago on "Special People" day to his Preschool.

Provide LOTS of opportunities to refine that grasp....
all in the process of play throughout the day.

As Fine Motor skills are mastered there are possibilities for Fine Arts.
--or--
Is it that in Fine Arts mastery -- fine motor skills are developed?

Look at these glorious spring 'collages'.
Cutting skills + design + drawing!!
spring flowers, children's art, bright colors, construction, collage

I had this scissor-snipping idea in my Spring Arts article.

Fine Motor, scissor snipping skills, spring flower, bulletin board

Talk about integrating Fine Motor + Fine Arts!

Speaking of flowers.....
did you get to see the guest author post here from Allison?
She has a very simple flower + painting idea for spring.
Can you guess the material used to create the 'bud'?

Now from all of these gradual and humble beginnings of fine motor fun... let's take a look at spring flowers from the hands of mature children.

These beauties were in the end-of-the-year Art-walk last spring at St. Paul's in Westerville OH.
Isn't it thrilling to see what an Art teacher can direct mature students to create?
These are obviously a part of a study on Van Gogh.

If we aspire to such incredible work at the end of the elementary years,
then we that work with young children need to build a strong foundation!

Preschool spring bulletin board, ladybugs, flowers, bumblebees, paper plates, insects
Paper plates provide the backbone for spring mural in Preschool

I LUV'D these drawings I captured during my Long Island Author-Illustrator visit in Amityville.
Thought they'd make an awesome collage of capability.

Kindergarten family drawings, shape people, crayons, early fine motor

I am so intrigued by these four drawings.
Each artist creates their family in their own style.
A rectangle family. A triangle family.
A cylinder family and an articulated body part family.
Just makes me smile thinking of the capability of children!

Keep on creating.
Keep on strengthening those fine motor muscles --
in an effort to lead to Fine Arts!!

REMEMBER!!!!!
Always have the children see you in the act of WRITING!!

Fine Arts from Fine Motor, Part 7

WELCOME BACK, FINE MOTOR FRIENDS!!!
Welcome to the Kid's Co-op blog hop!!

It's Friday!!!!
That means all things 'fine motor' with a look at 'Fine Arts.'
This makes the seventh installation in the series.
Let's get this party started!

First: prepare the materials to encourage exploration.

Let's look at fingers having fun with tissue paper!

This is a mature three year old at work.
LUV the concentration.
LUV the arrangement and use of colors!!!

Open ended!!!! Process!!!!!
All success -- all along the way!

Here I am with my 'grandma' hat on.....
with my WonderPeeps at the Conservatory.
All things: butterfly!
Awesome professionally, pre-made colorful butterflies prepared with scratch-off layer.

This set of hands are two years older.
Look at the confidence in this approach to the same project!!

Clothes-pins to be  decorated with magic-markers.
Goldfish crackers in a baggie to become wings.
Half of a pipe-cleaner for antennae.

Crayola Glitter Pens.
SQUEEEEEEEEEZE!!!!!!!

And another opportunity to explore with tissue paper!!!!
Variation on the theme presented above.

Whether in your classroom or your family room there are oodles of opportunities to include materials that afford working those fine motor muscles. Last week I had those photos of the awesome 'Lite Brites' and here are some glorious 'pegs' that also make an excellent chance to think numeracy while exercising those fingers.

Here's a collage I created after one of my 'Author Visits' to a Preschool here in FL earlier this year.
I just LUV the way these 'mosaics' turned out.

Pre-made stencil letters and lots of little squares of construction paper.

Remember!!!!! Always have the children see YOU writing!!!! LUV this idea of having the kiddos 'sign-in' their votes on the question for the classroom!!!

ALWAYS have the children see you recording their thoughts to share with others!

You simply must go back and see the first articles in the series!

RAINBOWS of Fine Motor

WELCOME!! WELCOME!!!! YOU FOUND US---
RIGHT HERE UNDER THE RAINBOW!!!!

RAINBOWS Within REACH that is!!!!!!!!
Today, I'm double-dippin'!!!!!!
I continue with my Fine-Motor Friday Fun for Fine Arts!!! Which has been a contribution to the Kid's Co-op end-of-the-week blog hop.

Today I also welcome my new friends that are on the St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt. I have all sorts of ideas to share today for the "Rainbow" connection -- with tomorrow's grand finale of the Pot of Gold over at Kreative in Kinder!
WELCOME one and all!!

Let's take a look at Rainbows and Fine Motor and Fine Arts all rolled into one big EXTRAVAGANZA!!

It all starts with making those fine motor muscles strong enough to continue on into Fine Arts.

Being the 'Rainbow Lady' I am often greeted with glorious Rainbow welcomes.
This one is especially spectacular in its execution!!
From my recent Author-visit to Gator Run Elementary in Florida!!

Here's another component of their Rainbow-welcome -- for my arrival in their midst.

It is such an honor to arrive at a school festooned in Rainbows.
Look at this entry to their school library!!
Created from individually cut-out handprint sillouettes.

Even more amazing than a glorious rainbow tribute on display in the building --
is to have individual children create their own rainbow for my arrival.
This is such a touching story.

It started out with smiles and a hug upon the rainbow presentation.
It ended up with TEARS.....lots of kindergarten tears.
You may need a tissue to read the whole story.
The earlier article is in my all-time Top 10 list just over there in the left sidebar.

The power of teachers and the impact they make along the way.
Click back to this earlier article when you need a rainbow 'pick-me-up.'

Remember 'Lite-Brites' and all the fun with creating silhouettes that then shine?
Here we are creating a 'rainbow' in light.
Look at all of this fine-motor fun!

Yes, those are my own WonderPeeps (grandchildren) at our recent field trip to Franklin Park Conservatory.
We had arrived serendipitously for the annual butterfly release.

We LUV the butterflies, but this 'exhibit' is an all-time favorite!

This next collage of photos is of a 'new-to-us' exhibit.
How AMAZING is this interactive sculptural DIY Chihuly?

I want one for my living-room!
Every program for children should have one!!
Open-ended and glorious!

In honor of the double-dipping:

Fine Motor Friday
+
Rainbows, St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt.......

I think its time for a RAINBOW RETROSPECTIVE!!!

Every rainbow requires the sun to peak thru the dark clouds -- just past the umbrellas.
I think this is the first ever paper chain rainbow I'd ever seen!

LUV these paintings -- where the paint nearly jumps off the page!!
Or how about this colossal HUGE media-construction?
It went from floor-to-ceiling!!

I LUV to capture 'rainbows' while I'm out on my travels!!

Here's a professional artist's pallette prior to launching into a masterpiece!

Yup! It takes both the dark clouds and the sunshine.......
to create the colors of the Rainbow.

I LUV the simplicity of this image!

This HUGE Rainbow Sculpture was on display at CSG in Columbus.
Upcycled, revisited materials brought to new life together.

Now look at these inspring 'rainbow-esque' names from mature 2nd graders --
in honor of my two day residency in their midst in Clyde, OH.
These masterpieces were created under the direction of their Art teacher.

My favorite 'illustration' from my first picture book, "You're Wonderful" has always had a rainbow feel to me.
Trust me there was a LOT of fine-motor action as I sewed the quilts together!

My long term readers know of my once-in-a-life time trip to Reggio Emilia, Italy....
where I performed for the Italian children while taking a tour of two centers.
Imagine my excitement to see this massive rainbow-of-pasta!!!

Here's a couple of classics!!!!

Preschool child's 'get-well' card to me, on the occaision of my cancer diagnosis: RAINBOW encouragement brought me hope!

Those of you who have visited here previously also know that I have been watching for lessons that teach and help reinforce 'kindness.'

I think these two thank you cards combine it all!
Fine Motor + Fine Arts + Rainbows + Kindness = PRICELESS!
