You're going to LUV LUV LUV this clever idea that came home in Mr. Eyelashes' kindergarten bookbag right before the break and our trip south. I just discovered the images going back through our ocean pictures. I know that it is toooooooooooo late to make use of this idea, but I just didn't want it to get lost in the shuffle. Pin it now for next year. Sensory science and exploration for Christmas -- all wrapped up into one! Brilliant idea!
***I have no idea who should get the credit for writing the rhyme.
If you know, could you leave that info in the comment below.
While I was digging around in the memory card I also found these goodies from last week's stop in Woodbine, GA. My last school visit of the year! A very 'mixed' audience for the Christmas Party organized for the community by the Mother Goose School. We had kiddos from the age of about 18 months to ten years in attendance and a great time was had by all. Since I had my daughter Sarah with me I have the extra benefit of having dozens and dozens of images to document our time together. THANK YOU, SWEETIE!
I love that sensory book! It goes so well with Elf on the Shelf and in the classroom and all the other things I like to do. I am pinning it for next year!

TRULY the PERFECT combo for Elf-on-the-Shelf!
DeleteDebbie,
ReplyDeleteI just discovered and started following you this morning on Twitter. What a pleasant surprise to see your post on Little Elf. Did you know it is actually a song? I inherited the project from a retired colleague (on a cassette tape!) a number of years ago. I had to create my own big book for shared reading. It's a tried and true favorite that I look forward to each December.
You are so right! This simple poem offers so many possibilities for the classroom and beyond. I call upon parents to help in the creation of the book. We practice before heading out around our school to spread some holiday cheer. The students love the candy cane hidden in the stocking on page 5 because they can give it away when we finish reading to others. What a wonderful opportunity to teach that it is better to give than receive. They are always pleasantly surprised to find a new candy cane in their book before bringing it home to share with family over the holidays. It's worth a few dollars in candy canes to replenish and spread the joy!
I look forward to reading more of your posts.

PATTY!!!! Luv this serendipitous meeting of the minds. Was your retired colleague the 'author' of the original rhyme? Is it a piggyback tune? One that we can all sing-a-long? Yes. It is easy to see how this would become the class favorite..... particularly if you created a big book format for shared reading.
DeleteI just think this is so brilliantly incredible that you'd find me right now. JUST in the nick of time! Please tell us so-much-more!
