Day of the Dead: All Saints

All Saints. Day of the Dead. Dia de Los Muertos. What can we learn from other cultures? From their approach to living and dying. From their celebration of those who have gone before us. From their mixing of the art, the memories, and the zest for life into one great big pot of color. I took these pictures at the Penninsula School for the Arts. These displays were created by a collaboration between artists in the area and school children. Personal dioramic-displays of parents and siblings gone before us seemed just too personal for me to photograph. Knitting needles in the act of knitting no more. Nascar flotsom & jetsam: pit crew passes and ticket stubs. Junior high photographs -- all melding into mini-altars to lives well lived and remembered with affection and reverance. What can we learn from other approaches to lives lived here on this planet? Let us remember. Remember & celebrate.
