EPIC {Painted} Hands and Feet RoundUP!
WELCOME to my first EPIC RoundUP that stands HANDS above the rest!
I've gathered well over 100 images from my author-illustrator school visits!
The common thread is HANDS & feet!
ALL HANDS on DECK!
HANDS DOWN this is gonna be a DOOZIE!
You're gonna wanna HAND me a prize when you finish!
Raise-your-hand if you appreciate HAND projects.
One of my favorite things making my author, music-lady school visits is to get the 'audience' all tuned up, on the same channel and MOVING together. I LUV LUV LUV when we get a good photo of everyone's hands moving in the same direction at the same time. The one above from southern Texas is an all-time favorite. We really packed that library full to the brim!
Let's get this party started with a look at some amazing work that I had the chance to record during my tour across Reggio Emilia, Italy! We'll then do some collaborative school welcome and classroom hands.... next comes hands through the seasons and holidays. We'll conclude with Art room hand projects and author welcome hand-rainbows. Please plan to pin your favorites as you look around.
DRUMROLL...................................... REGGIO!
LITTLE ones! Toddlers. WAY before preschool. My favorite part of this hands + feet project, is the manner in which the 'process' is documented with photographs, within the finished mural.
There are actually two different mural paintings.
One created primarily with hands (in blue) that becomes the sky
and the second created by feet (in green) that becomes the grass.
They are then spliced together to create one landscape backdrop.
Here's a better glimpse of the photo documentation.
Here's another toddler room's painting experience and their photo documentation.
"Uni Scia di Colore" loosely translates: "The Trail of Color."
The thing about hands?
They're easily available.
Accessible.
They can serve as a template.
Something of a stencil.
Incorporating hands (and feet) from the very beginning?
Bolsters confidence.
FLASHBACK to our WonderTwinzees on an Arts Field Trip in Preschool |
Even older students take comfort in the occasional flashback
and incorporate a hand tracing as they mature.
This one was a gift given to a favorite teacher and hanging next to her desk.
Now let's take a gander at the Power-of-Pinterest!
I don't know who created the first collaborative hands
bulletin board.
I personally have seen three different variations on the theme.
Same 'quote.'
Same concept.
Different interpretation.
Three different ways!
The first one I saw in Indiana.
The third was in Florida.
To tell you the truth I can't quite remember where I took the second photo.
I do remember that this decorated door with personalized hands was in Colorado!
Also from CO is the following MASSIVE hand-collaboration.
Rachel's Challenge is an out growth of the Columbine story.
You can go to their website to see the incredible outreach provided across the country.
Now let's leave the hallways and go into some classrooms.
First let's go inside!
You're going to find hand word walls, behavior helps and more!

And now to begin the MANY, MANY Hand print projects.
Paint those hands.
Trace those hands.
And the piggies, too!
After a little: "All About Me"
we'll go to some classic children's picture book extensions.
Then there are a few Hands-on room decorations!
Now let's begin with "Back-to-School" painted hands.
Bulletin Boards and some more decorated classroom doors!
Nothing says "BTS" like an apple poem with painted hand prints!
Once we get beyond launching school, fall is in the air!
Then blink your eyes and the march of holidays begin!!!
