#TeacherFriends Twitter Chat 5/19 Bridge to Parents: ClassDojo

TeacherFriends Twitter Chat for Beginners to build Professional Learning Network CONTINUES!

TUESDAY TEACHERS TOGETHER TWEETING!

What is it like to be able to connect to your professional peers from across the country and around the world, in a couple strokes of the keyboard? Click, clack and the right hashtag and you are connected to like-minded individuals focused on a common theme.

Learning to take advantage of the power of 24/7 professional development and inspiration is the entire focus and goal behind our weekly Twitter chat at the hashtag #TeacherFriends.

What I started very innocently as an effort to encourage some of my non-Twitter-tweeps, to give Twitter a try, has evolved into something much more powerful. Our 'beginners' PRACTICE chat has grown beyond my wildest imagination when I started this thought 11 months ago!

I owe a HUGE debt of gratitude to my three 'hostess' and dear friends who have contributed so much time and energy to supporting the chat experience and individual participants. Be sure that you are following Kristen, Maggie and Kim on Twitter to get the most out of our time together. They are a wealth of knowledge a year into the evolution of our chat!!

I know you're overwhelmed as the year concludes, but that is just the right time to dip your toes in the water! No pressure. Just lurk. Get your name on our Google Doc for the prizes, though. Make that your goal for tonight!

Tonight we welcome ClassDojo to our spotlight to share their insight and experience in building a bridge between teachers and parents. What a great way to conclude the year! PLUS they have some serious swag to give away!

See you on the hashtag #TeacherFriends. We start at 8:30 PM EST with our EarlyBirds portion of the evening. Perfect for the true newbie-to-Twitter orientation. The chat itself begins at 9:00!

Praise Report: The Arrival of the Butterfly, Seeking Support

Every year we take an adventure to Franklin Park Conservatory.
It has L-O-N-G been a favorite destination.
This year on Mother's Day was palpably poignant.

The butterflies have returned.
So much symbolism there.
From the depth of the dark chrysalis to the winged flight.
Faith. Hope. Trust.
The unknown phase is where the faith journey begins.
We had such an incredible romp through the beauty.

I LUV'd seeing our WonderPeeps "share" their butterflies with other, younger children.
Trusting. Trusting. Trusting.
Growing maturity.
Hallelujah!

It's been a CRA-CRA-CRAZY, Busy Glorious week!!!!
These pictures are for you mom!

We have been having such a great time together.
Mr. Long Lashes made ME the treasure box in Sunday School.
We've been romping about the neighborhood!
So exciting to see the new birthday-bikes in action!

And there have been trips to parks!
Near and farther: tree climbing and monkey barring:

Today we spent a rainy Saturday at a children's science museum.
The intention was to return to roller skating,
but alas the rink was closed?!?!
Thank goodness Sarah knows all of the child-friendly sites.
This was a first for me.

My favorite was this heat-seeking map.
YUP. Looks like a rainbow-within-reach to me!
That's three generations of good-looking-gals!

We were even able to get all 6 of us into one rainbow!

I had two school visits in person this week here in Ohio,
and one via SKYPE back to FL.
That's a lot of delight to juggle.

There are so many blessings.
So much to rejoice over and praise!

I finally got to visit my Lamaze-friend-Betsy,
in THEIR home.
Our babies are 31. You do the math.
How do I not have a picture of our reunion?
Sometimes you just soak up time in your heart!

Such a treasure to have a dear friend listen.
I'm quite sure the visitor is to bring flowers,
but my hostess sent me home with an arrangement.
Again. You do the math.
There are angels in our midst.

Sarah appreciates the flowers, Betsy!

That's the way of Lamaze buddies: listen-to-the-challenges.
Listen with an open-heart.

The truth of the matter?
There are challenges at hand.
On a daily basis.
Reality is settling in.
Change is a part of the calendar.
Children are resilient in the end.
In the mean-time?
 Adjustment. Confusion. Sorrow. Challenge.

Your prayer support means the world to all of us.
There have been any number of times when it is your prayers
that have kept me putting one foot in front of the other!

In our unexpected financial crush.....
Our daughter Sarah had HUGE tidal waves of support
for her initial efforts with her Younique business.
Hallelujah indeed.
In the dead of winter your support was astounding!
Her story is "on-going" in nature and she is searching for continued support:
friends willing to host a cyber party for Younique cosmetics.
If you're willing, it would mean the world to me.
Just reach out and let me know.
This week or next month.

I have just opened a Younique party myself.
You can order your goodies thru me,
which supports her!

Our greatest 'influx' of new $$ has come through our distribution of Wobble Seats.
This week was phenomenal on that front!
Every time you order from our website,
some new $$ is generated
and we thank the heavens.

This week has had numerous orders and NUMEROUS inquiries!
Thank you angels.
Hallelujah!

This month promises to be my biggest on TeachersPayTeachers.
I have the two digital download end-of-year songs
perfect for your concluding programs.
Self-esteem tears of growth, or patriotism?

Yes. Every extra five dollars is reason to celebrate.
I have had 19 digital downloads and the month is hardly half over.
I realize that number (19) is ludicrous small to the BIG sellers,
but to me it is nothing short of God's manna from heaven.

I thank you in advance!

***This week I got the contract for the US Army series of presentations in the Washington DC area just before Labor Day.
If you want to get in on that tour,
just let me know!
How about launching your school year
with an author/illustrator visit?
Our brown-eyed daughter is so thrilled that we're coming to her neck of the woods!
HALLELUJAH!

***I also have a mini Ohio tour unfolding for November!
Where are my Buckeyes that need an author-visit?

Let me conclude right now with my memory verse of late:

"Vengeance is mine says the Lord." ~~ Romans 12:19

I've added a new memory verse:

"For it is indeed just of God to repay with affliction those who afflict you and to give relief to the afflicted." ~~ 2 Thessalonians 2:6-7

Or here's another suitable verse to consider:
"Thus I will punish the world for its evil,
And the wicked for their iniquity; I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud,
And abase the haughtiness of the ruthless."
~~ Isaiah 13:11

Or something especially pithy?
"Assuredly, the evil man will not go unpunished,
But the descendants of the righteous will be delivered." ~~ Proverbs 11:21

It is during seasons like this,
and I have outlived earlier such seasons.....
that I turn to the ancient scriptures for insight and
"BLESSED ASSURANCE."
{Please start singing that hymn here.}

Just as the caterpillar goes into the darkened cocoon,
so we await the emergence to a brighter day.

In the meantime?
We rejoice during this our time of austerity.
We are told to rejoice in all circumstances:
"More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." Romans 5:2-5
over the joy of the playground park, butterflies,
your prayers and other heavenly gifts.

"And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you." ~~ 1 Peter 5:10

Wobble Seat "Demonstration" 10" Height for the Youngest!

WOBBLE! WOBBLE! WOBBLE!

We have arrived at WonderPeep Central and are camping in and getting caught up on all things Peep-like! You should see our car on these cross-country vagabonds. Do you know the spacial game Tetris? Good thing my hubby excels in this area of spacial planning.

Anyhow. Part of the great fun of the month-of-May, is that beyond connecting again with our dear family.... is the opportunity to connect with our friends, too!

I have written about "SuperManny" on numerous occasions in the past. He is the poster child for overcoming and persevering! He was an early, early preemie and then diagnosed with cancer. He has overcome so much in his five years. He is a true delight and has the most amazing personality.

I was super excited to introduce him to the "Wobble Seat" that we distribute. He is still small for his age, so I thought the smallest version, at 10 inches would be just right for his height. It is light enough for him to carry it easily! Super independent.

In a nutshell? HE LUV'd IT!!!!

I was very excited to see him acclimate to it from the first second.

People always ask  if children will fall off, as they are seated on the wobble. I am thrilled to report that in approximately 30 minutes of rocking on the wobble, there was never a moment where he even came close to falling off. He reached, he stretched, he sang, he did puzzles, he laughed, he hammed it up for us and all with complete and utter safety!

We got out a little area rug to place on the hardwood floor, to give some buffer to the stool. At the end of the half an hour, we removed the rug and even directly on the hardwood floor, he was completely at home and at ease.

Please visit our website for the specific sizes, colors and prices.

I have to figure out how to get his little videos from FB to here? Hmmmm.

HAPPY Mother's Day: Four Generation Praise Report!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY 2015!!!
My blessings overflow as I consider the official holiday
to celebrate our mothers and motherhood.
We are in the midst of celebrating a four generation family lineage.
There is no greater gift possible.

While we are spread about the countryside,
there are moments of complete togetherness that are treasured.
Having my own mommy at the helm is a gift beyond measure.
She sets the standard for creativity at the very zenith!

It is this weekend that I reflect on what motherhood has brought to me.
These incredible women are shining stars
that bring me happiness and delight!
I stand in awe of their combined persistence + resiliency.
They are following their unique giftedness
and I treasure the opportunity to see their lives unfold.

This has been the cross-country trek week.
We were blessed with safe travels from the palm trees to the pines.
In between we descended on my parents and sister,
for quite possibly the shortest visit of all time.
Breakfast and worship together.
Hugs and a few tears.
Time to treasure:
especially because of the brevity.

Aren't we supposed to be in the era of clicking heals
transporting us instantly into the arms of our loved ones?

When will the science fiction comics of my youth catch up?
Allen's many, many, many hours behind the steering wheel attest to that gap in actuality.
From breakfast with mom to lunch the following day with daughter.
Shazam!

No time for lingering yet.
From Columbus on to Detroit and the warmth of a spontaneous group hug of littles.
A moment to be frozen in time to treasure at leisure.
Spending the day with about 222 preschoolers?
PRICELESS!

The *A*M*A*Z*I*N*G* thing about the Month of May?
It is like "old home-week."
Party after party.

Annually, I treasure May for many reasons!
This year is even MORE splashed with gratitude.
I am called to lots of "end-of-year" events
where I contribute the polka-dots.
It also means that I am returning to places I've been before.

Amy's been promoted from teacher-to-principal.
To go to their home was like an oasis.
We've stayed with them before.
She is an incredible cook! AND BAKER!
But it is her supportive thoughts & prayers that kept me operational.
Plus she loaned me her favorite book to read!
I'll take a picture of that for next week + give a report.

THIS JUST IN!
Just before we left Florida, I made a school visit to Cheryl's.
Their school tech genius got my permission to film some video.
I just received the sweetest 2.5 minute memento!
That's a screenshot, look below for the invite to click + watch!

Another, before we left FL highlight?
We got to spend a couple of nights with Allen's sister!
They've started a new home business!
Custom machine embroidery.
I fell in love with their thread wall!
ALL OF THOSE COLORS!

'

Is it absolutely awful that I forgot to pose a pic of the four of us?
The thread was just too breath-taking!

I always forget to click when I'm feeling the most relaxed.
Their business is D&J Embroidery.
I helped them get started here on Instagram.
They are all set up to create your CUSTOM designs.
Look what they created for our Younique business!

Speaking of Younique!
Since yesterday was the 8th of the month,
our daughter Sarah learned "officially" that she has earned
the company's incentive cruise!

She signed up in January and cruise earned at the end of APRIL!

The POWER of a GROUP Hug and ALIENS as AUTHENTIC Art!

AUTHENTIC Art: "Aliens" Collage and Multi-Media Construction by Preschoolers at RainbowsWithinReach

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
Have you felt appreciated this week?
I certainly have.
I am the recipient of a group hug.

Where do I start? With the Aliens that are AUTHENTIC?
Or the power of a group hug?

Or some sort of reflection on what it is that I do for a living?
Or my thoughts about life at the moment?
Or just how blessed I am?
Or how WONDERFUL my life really is?
Or the rest of the story?
-------------------------------------
This next image is what I work over-time to project to the world:
THE SUN IS ALWAYS OUT.

My face is always smiling.
The colors are happy razzle-dazzle.
I share my over-sized heart with others
and every hair is in place. TaDAH!

After all. I get to work with children.
I am appreciated for doing so.
I get to share my unique spin on fun heavy duty learning:
singing, signing and reading along the way.

I am indeed a fortunate woman.
I get to do what I love and get better at doing it,
through the opportunity of doing it, because I love it.

Murphy has his laws. {Just sayin'.}
That's kinda profound, what I said, just above, up there.
I know that I'm easily entertained, but I think there's a kernel of karmic truth
in that thought my fingers just typed.
I may need to quote myself.
Yes. Yes, I do need to quote myself:

The power of having a blog?
You can quote yourself if you want!

Truth be told. If you could take an internal photo of me right now?
It would look more like this.
There is no sun in sight.
Things look a bit dark, in fact.
And I forgot my shoes!
Don't get me started about my hair.
Looks like a great empty spot inside, where my heart used to be.

Many of you know that we are in a 'train-wreck' portion of life.
No. We were not on a train-that-wrecked.
More metaphorical than passenger-steel-bullet crashing.
Just seems that much of what we thought to be true was not.
But the show must go on!
Literally.

*We can talk later as to the wisdom of delivering the keynote on Saturday for the Space Coast in central Florida and a school visit starting Tuesday morning in Detroit, with a drive in between to connect the dots, that also allowed for family hugs, because the state of Georgia is between the two.

A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!
So I put one foot in front of the other and search for my smile....
And attempt to get my buttons lined up.
I am not above safety pins and duct tape: take as needed!
Fake it till you make it.... and all of that jazz.

I am beyond blessed.
I get to look into the eyes of purity.
I get to hear the uncensored thoughts of four year olds.
Yesterday I got to spend my day with about 222 preschoolers.
It may have seemed like 7 times that many, but I asked.
I'm sure I was told less that 250.
Oh that I could bottle their responsiveness.
Their delight. Their eagerness.
Instead I just let them power me.
I let their zest power me for the moment.
Moment by moment.

I let their laughter, their belly laughs
and their incredulity of delight -- fill me up.
That's why I know it was Teacher Appreciation Day-week-month.
They gave me the gift of their whole-hearted JOY:
WITH NO STRINGS ATTACHED!

Most of the cherubs sitting on that rug had no idea
that I have too many tabs open in my brain.
I found it very interesting that one of the insightful sweeties was able to document exactly what I see in the mirror.

As you can see, my heart has undergone a rebuild.
This is not my first metaphorical train-wreck.

I know at the top of my brain that I am a star.

And as I focus on that star power,
I can continue to contribute.
That is the power of authenticity.
That is the power of open-ended materials.
Even those that are four can convey the truth as they know it.

I have a guy that stands beside me.
He delivers me to places where I can contribute.
His buttons are in a row and his two hairs are combed.
We make an awesome team!
Right now, he is keeping us moving forward.

His character and steadfast devotion has stood the test of two decades plus.
Train wrecks or Hawaiian bucket list adventure?
You can count on him. He delivers. He's a man of his word.
What you see is what you get.
He goes to the wall and back for family.

Yes. That is what children want.
They want the adults in their lives to be honest and trust worthy.
To tell the truth and then deliver the goods.
To walk the talk.

I'll always remember Dr. Pam Schiller
say to her crowded keynote audience,
"TRUST IS JOB ONE."

It is our first responsibility to be trustworthy.
Children need our steadfast honesty and consistency.
They can spot incongruity a mile away.

The day after "May-the-fourth-be-with-you"
is Teacher Appreciation Day.

I will never take the hug of a child for granted.
It amazes me to no end that children will risk the penalties of getting out of line,
to rush over and give me a parting hug.
You can almost see the hug bubbling up inside of them.
Do I or don't I?
Then the little feet come rushing.
Once the Genie is out of the bottle,
it is not a very far leap to a full on, whole hearted GROUP hug.
Having a wall to support the crowd is a good thing.

And just how does an entire BUILDING of EXCELLENCE emerge?
An entire program?
A staff willing to go the extra mile?
Teachers well versed in best practice --
with evidence on every bulletin board of open ended process Art?

It is NOT by accident.
Good places emerge from GOOD people.
Great places emerge under the leadership of GREAT people.

I would like to publicly profess my appreciation to this rainbow-maker.
Amy has opened her heart and her home to the two of us vagabonds.

She has baked us an apple pie in a paper bag.
She has crafted chicken noodle soup to replenish and nourish.
She has listened and she has hugged.

This is NOT our first rodeo together.
We think it is our fourth.
There's something to be said for a port in the storm.
A port in the storm that bakes and hugs?

PRICELESS!

* I have written about Authentic Art on more than one occasion. This is the lengthy culmination of several earlier articles.
