Heading into the Alps

This post is a reflection of our "three country day." We woke up and had breakfast at our windmill in Germany, then traveled on and had lunch in Austria and ended up in Italy for dinner!!! My great dismay is that you can travel between countries without needing to even slow down at the borders, let alone have your passport stamped from your travels. So apparently our passports will only sport the Switzerland stamp -- as that's where we flew in and will ultimately fly out. The alps across all three countries were breath-taking. It took just over seven hours of driving time to cross. Oh, there was an off-road adventure when the Autoban came to a complete stop for well over 45 minutes and we followed a 'local' thru a farm field and then trusted Elsa our GPS to reroute us through the countryside.

I wanted to document how the clocks everywhere read "13:12" rather than what would be more familiar as 1:12..... alas the one pic that also documents the temperature in Celsius is a tad blurry -- but you get the idea. We even had the i-pod playing our song for such an occasion.

As we traveled up into the higher elevations the temperature continued to drop -- the lowest we saw reported on our car radio was 4 degrees Celsius. Shiver-shiver-shiver.
