Twitter Teacher PRACTICE Chat: Teaching with Tech 9PM EST 10/28

Tuesday PRACTICE Twitter Chat Continues!

Expand your PLN!!!!
{Professional Learning Network}

Tonight! Teaching with Technology!
What does that mean to you?
On a scale of 1 to 100, how tech-savvy are you?

Want to move UP that scale?
Plan to join us tonight at the Twitter hashtag:

#TeacherFriends

#TeacherFriends PRACTICE Chat with Weekly #GuestEduCelebrity

Tonight beginning at 8:30 EST we will gather for the TRUE newbies who need to learn to navigate a Twitter Chat. The pacing is MUCH slower at 8:30 and is the perfect way to get your toes wet. We will also start tweeting the Google-doc that you must enter to win the many prizes being offered! The winners will be chosen randomly at the chat's conclusion, but you may enter during the EarlyBirds portion of the evening. Not to worry if you can't 'stay' all evening, we will notify winners and help orchestrate your claiming your prize.

If you have an early bedtime or the time zone thing works better for you to visit with friends at 8:30, by all means join us during this portion of the evening. Our intention is for you to PRACTICE and visit with one another prior to the tip-off at 9:00 PM EST!

Tonight our #GuestEduCelebrity is Anibal Pacheco. My suggestion is that you take a heartbeat now and follow him on Twitter. That will help you see what brilliant tech ideas he offers even after our chat concludes.

If you have a minute it would certainly benefit you to jump over to his site and take a quick look around.

Right now his most recent article is PERFECT for the Twitter newbie in our midst, "The MOST Common Twitter Terms Explained." Just click the pic to refer to his helpful glossary of terms and their definitions.

Jack-o-Lantern Craft with Baby Food Jars + Pumpkins, TOO!

Halloween Jack-o-Lantern Craft for Children at RainbowsWithinReach

Dateline: Halloween. Easy Peasy Crafts for Children

Have you gathered a collection of baby food jars just waiting for inspiration?
Here's a child-friendly craft in the nick of time!

Clean out your glass jars from the recycle bin.
Grab some orange and black tissue paper.

Do you have some mod podge type product?
Or just dilute your school glue with water.

These are obviously "finished" with wire for handles!

Jack-o-Lantern Craft from Babyfood Jars for Halloween at RainbowsWithinReach

I saw these cuties last week up in New Jersey drying in the art room, during my Author-Illustrator school visit.

Jack-o-Lantern Pumpkin Craft at RainbowsWithinReach

Just down the hall there were some three-dimensional pumpkin sculptures on display in a corner of the kindergarten classroom.

Easy Kids Craft: Pumpkins from Paper Bags at RainbowsWithinReach

Take a brown paper bag, snack size.
Stuff it with newspaper crumples.
A twist here. A twist there.
Paint.
Adorn with construction paper leaves and pipe cleaner stems!

A fitting seasonal center-piece for even a Martha Stewart table setting!
Grouping a 'bunch' together is that much more festive!

My song "Monster Spray" would be the perfect cherry on the top of your Fall Festival Celebration. It is available in a zipped file for digital download purchase at Teachers Pay Teachers.

The song is just creepy enough to be exciting,
but still PERFECT for the PreK+K crowd.

With the happy, fun ending don't be surprised if the kids in your life ask to hear it again and again! They will be joining in on the rousing chorus RIGHT away {complete with sound effects.}

Monsters, Fear, Perseverance + Monster Spray for Halloween Fun

photo of: Monsters of Emotions by Third Graders (via RainbowsWithinReach)

Once upon a time there was a very precocious and extremely verbal two year old who was VERY afraid of the MONSTERS in her dark bedroom at night. Bedtime became something of an ordeal. No amount of cajoling and maternal listening could convince her otherwise.

Weary mommy would be awakened night after night with fearful tears as the Monsters seemed to convene sometime around 2:18 a.m. to start their Toddler terrorizing treachery.  Every.Single.Night.

Then one middle of the night the lightbulb went off in that exhausted mommy brain!
Ask WHERE the monsters were. Specifically.

"They're under the bed."
"They're up on the top of the teddy bear shelf."
"They're between the shoes in the closet."

Just like that! Mommy reached for her MONSTER SPRAY!
She sprayed in each monster-hiding-place with the {invisible} spray.

After all we had used bug-spray earlier that day and it DID keep the bugs away!!!
In the wink and blink of an eye, little precocious one went to sleep!
FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT!

Brilliant mommy made spraying the room's hiding places a nightly ritual forever after and the whole house slept soundly ever since!

You, too, can have an entire SONG to empower the fearful in your life.
My "Monster Spray" is available as a digital download!
It is available at TeachersPayTeachers!

Now, here's the happy update!
That precocious one is all grown up!
Here she is, oboe in hand, lower right hand corner.

Tuesday Teachers TwitterChat: Supporting Parents of Challenging Students

Today's TUESDAY!
That means time to PRACTICE our Twitter Chat Skills!

Tonight we have a topic close to all the heart of all my #TeacherFriends:

PARENTING!
Supporting parents!
Supporting parents of Challenging Kids!

Tonight as our #GuestEduCelebrity
we have Bill Corbett in the spotlight!
Be sure that you are following him on Twitter!

Bill wears MANY hats.
He speaks regularly on a whole range of topics,
but the 'parenting' subject is the one drawing his largest audiences.

Tonight he will be giving away a recording of his lecture,
"Creating Cooperative Kids:
Love, Limits & Lessons."

All you have to do is to enter our Google Doc with your info.
That doc will be tweeted at 8:30 and regularly through out the evening's chat and once entered you will be eligible for ALL prizes being awarded tonight.

Just a reminder.
If you are 'new' to Twitter and or chatting on Twitter,
I would suggest that you arrive EARLY, beginning at 8:30 PM EST.
There will be several of us available in the wings
to help you navigate our visiting-chatting together.
I use TweetDeck and make a 'column' for our chat,
using the hashtag #TeacherFriends for navigation.

Here's the outline of our spotlight guests from now until Thanksgiving.
Make note.
Mark your calendars.

We do archive each chat session.
That allows you to read back through all of the helpful insight being shared -- at your leisure!
